40-min audio from NPR's "All Things Considered", if you want a solid idea of what happened with the bond market meltdown and how certain people made a lot of money betting it would crash. There is also a lot of information about what exactly allowed the madness to exist and thrive.

Fascinatingly, the characters who seemed to have made the most off the bond crash do not seem to have been happy to discover what they did about it. In fact, the interviewee points out that they experienced serious health problems during the crash even as it was making them millions, if not billions, in profits, due to their fears that the crash would lead to public unrest, etc. But while I sympathize, it is somewhat limited. They can afford the best cardiologists.
